Principal Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

The role

Sirius Minerals is seeking an experienced Principal Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to work within the Project Development team of its US$2.9 billion multi-discipline engineering, procurement and construction Project.

Reporting to the engineering manager, the incumbent will be responsible for instrumentations and controls across the Project within the schedule targets and contracting strategy. This will include underground mining, the material transportation system (MTS), material handling facility (MHF) and the port.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with various stakeholders to develop project criteria specifications and ensure consistent implementation across various contractors.

  • Review contractor quotations.

  • Hold coordination and engineering review meetings with contractors and project managers within the team.

  • Liaise with contractors and equipment suppliers where necessary.

  • Assess progress and procedure related reports and suggest plans to recover slippage, correct inefficiency and to take any resulting agreed actions.

  • Advise the engineering manager of any major schedule slippages or cost overruns and their causes, major technical problems and unresolved differences with contractors.

  • Prepare, check, approve and provide technical input into project deliverables to the required quality standards in conformance with, or better than, the approved budget and programme.

Skills, experience and attributes

  • Be technically conversant with the lasted advances in technology, including mineral process plants and automation of underground mining fleet.

  • Able to deliver documentation that is technically correct to the required standard and schedule.

  • An understanding of the entire project life cycle from the concept to completion.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Exceptional personal presentation.

  • Proven organisational and time management skills.

  • Experience in a similar role within a large-scale project is essential.
