Once at full production the Project will directly employ over 1,000 people, with many more jobs created in the supply chain. We have a longstanding commitment to employ as many local people as possible and already over half of the team are from the local area.
The jobs across the Project will be wide ranging, from skilled tradespeople and technicians to process operatives and engineers. There will also be positions available in the various departments that support the business including human resources, finance, sales and marketing, external affairs, health and safety, IT and administration. Entry routes into the Company will vary from adults with experience or transferrable skills, to young people leaving school, college or university.
The company will recruit and train a local workforce around a core team of specialist and experienced personnel. Most positions, including electricians or mechanical fitters for example, would not necessarily need experience specific to the mining industry. In addition, a proportion of these positions would be made up of apprentices who would not need any prior experience and could receive on the job training.
A significant proportion of mine operatives (miners) would not need any previous mining experience. They would be selected on the basis of their transferable skills and aptitudes and could also be trained on the job. All staff will receive ongoing training to gain recognised qualifications relevant to their roles to support their progression through the Company.

The Company has committed to a programme of training over the next few years including apprenticeships, the continuation of our undergraduate programme and training at least 300 adults with transferrable skills in preparation for operations. More details on these schemes will be made available on this website.
The Company’s team will grow over the next few years in the build up to production. However, the most immediate opportunities will be in construction with an estimated 2,000 jobs created during the five-year construction period.
Whilst it is likely that for specialist activities such as shaft sinking and tunnel boring a number of the positions will be filled by people from outside the area, these roles will still be available to local people. Other roles required for site preparation, landscaping and above ground buildings are expected to be filled by local labour.
As we move closer towards construction more information will be provided on the types of roles that will be available, when they will be required and the experience and types of qualifications that will be needed. This will include employment opportunity sessions that will be open to the public and attended by our construction contractors, which will be advertised on this website.
