Night time closures will be in place for five nights on the B1416 for resurfacing works. The stretch of road affected is from the A171 junction south of Whitby to Red Gate corner and will be in force between 8.00pm and 6.00am from March 27.
The resurfacing works are part of the scheme to create a new turning lane into Woodsmith Mine which will improve both highway safety and access to the site.
The scheme is part of a number of highways improvements that are being funded by Sirius Minerals as part of the planning permission for its North Yorkshire polyhalite project.
Other works include upgrades to pavements in Whitby along the A171, a new signalised crossing on Helredale Road and a new right-hand turn filter lane from the A171 onto the B1416. All works are progressing well and are expected to be completed on schedule by 7 April 2017.
Geotechnical studies are continuing at Woodsmith Mine to gather further detailed geological information. Site preparation works are set to start in April to enable work on the shafts to begin later this year.
